Europaplatz Mannheim

Centrally planned and located as the eastern end of the orthogonal structure of Mannheim's city center, Europaplatz is nevertheless located in an undefined intermediate space, in no man's land. The people of Mannheim know it - from driving past. Through the window and the windshield, however, the place remains distant. The redesign of Europaplatz involves reclaiming and rediscovering it as an urban space: a lively, green place, networked with its surroundings. Suitable for everyday use and the climate thanks to a significant increase in the volume of greenery, the cultural and non-commercial programming of the spacious center, and the medium-term establishment of new uses in the shady edges of the square.
